What we do

TRICKSTER THEATRE has been working in Alberta schools for 30 years. We have been providing our very popular Residency Program to schools for over 20 years. Nearly 500 schools have held Trickster Residencies. These have covered all grade levels.

5-Day Residency Program

In our 5-day Artist-in-the-School Residency Program we create, produce and stage an original 90-minute physical theatre production based on a theme or idea chosen by the school.

This theatre residency is suitable for up to 500 students (up to 24 classes) from grades K-12.

Trickster supplies lighting, sound, curtains, costumes and props, as well as a team of established theatre artists.

Up to $15,000 in funding assistance is available from the Alberta Foundation for the Arts. Schools are eligible for either 50% or 75% funding, depending on location. See AFA funding. This Artist Residency program is available to schools throughout Alberta.

Kids as Global Citizens

This year, in additon to being able to choose any theme you want, as the basis of your show, we are also supporting the theme - KIds as Global Citizens. For schools that choose this theme we are providing web-based tools that enable you to more fully engage with the theme, track projects, link to NGOs, and share with other schools.

Act2Learn in the Classroom

In this program, teachers learn how to assist students in "acting out" the curriculum.

Using lesson plans from the www.act2learn.org website, we demonstrate how high levels of student learning can be achieved by giving students a more kinesthetic understanding of the curriculum.

Reviews

“You have a wonderful team of professionals to work with. They’re so accommodating and flexible and a joy to be around. Hope to see you again next year!"

- Mrs. Gaetz, Teacher, St. Sylvester School, Calgary

“Tremendous! I’d recommend all schools to take up this great opportunity of learning and growing together. It brought the staff, the students, the parents and other volunteers together as a team. It is amazing how it all comes together so well in one week.”

- Laura Laskowski, Teacher, Weinlos School, Edmonton
